Virgin Media (VirginMedia.com/netbook) has launched a free netbook laptop worth £300 that’s bundled in with their home and mobile broadband packages.

Known as the free Virgin Media “Freedom” netbook, it is the company’s first ever branded laptop and comes in either black or Virgin red.

The bespoke laptop has been made exclusively for Virgin Media and has been optimised for 50Mbps home broadband speeds.

Specification wise, the netbook comes equipped with a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 120GB hard drive, wireless LAN, 2-in-1 card reader, 0.3 megapixel webcam and 10.2″ TFT LCD display.

The Freedom netbook, weighing in at just 1.1kg, is also packaged with top line software including Microsoft Windows XP (inc. SP3), Microsoft Works suite and PCguard security for antivirus protection.

Both new and existing Virgin Media customers can get the laptop for free when they take selected Virgin Media bundled packages at any Virgin Media retail store.

One such bundle costs from £20 a month (for the first 3 months, £29p/m thereafter) and includes up to 10Mb Virgin Media home broadband and up to 1.8Mb Virgin mobile broadband with free dongle and 1GB data usage.

Customers must sign up to a 24 month contract and also take Virgin Media phone line rental at an additional £11 a month.

Further information on these bundles can be found at the VirginMedia.com website.

Readers can also compare other mobile broadband with free laptop deals here from the likes of T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone and 3.
